Fines for not having a fire extinguisher in your car

Starting from September 1, drivers must carry a fire extinguisher in their cars at all times or they will be fined.

"Our Goal is Your Safety" is a campaign started by Abu Dhabi Police explaining that this move is important to the security and safety of the society.

Depending on the size of the fire extinguisher, they cost between Dh79 and Dh159, and can be found at most hardware shops. The small size weighs around 1.5kg.

"Its key objective is to educate motorists on the need to take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their vehicles; perform regular maintenance and check the validity of the vehicles' tyres, to maintain their own safety," said Brigadier Gaith Hassan Al Za'abi, the director general of the Traffic Coordination Department.

It is still unclear how much the fine would be, but according to a representative from the Ministry of Interior, a more detailed announcement will be made soon.

As reported by The National newspaper.
