Ford offroad event in Jordan

Posted by Mansoor A. Bukhari on May 31, 2016

Just a brief recap of what we were doing last week. Well, we were invited by Ford Middle East to spend three days with them in Jordan. And, the entire setup of the event and the whole organization was top class. The hosts did an outstanding job in making sure the guests are treated well throughout the trip. The locations – Dead Sea, Aqaba and Petra – were perfectly suited for test driving the cars.

The event started with a drive from the Kempinski Hotel Dead Sea – the hotel borders the Dead Sea road – and then we reached the offroading area. This was a very long offroad stretch and this gave me enough time to become one with the machine. After all, there is no point in having offroad vehicles if there is no offroad drive. The offroad drive was followed by lunch in a typical Jordanian camp in the desert.

T.E. Lawrence and the Arab army rode two months through the desert to take Aqaba by surprise. We did it only in a few offroading hours with all the SUV line-up and ofcourse much more horsepower and AC. So, we were literally recreating the story happened hundreds of years ago.  Below we can see Lawrence of Arabia with driving a Ford Model T in Wadi Rum desert.

Also we need to give special thanks to the Jordan Tourism Board for taking care of us every step of the way. Their assistance really saved the day as we were driving as a convoy with police cars at the front and the back. So everything on that side was very smooth.
