Nissan has previewed its all-new CMF-EV platform that will underpin upcoming electric models. The carmaker says that this platform is also called a ‘magic flying carpet’ within its group of engineers and designers because of the fact that the latter can let their imagination run wild and build striking cars without any boundation from the platform. The Japanese carmaker claims that the CMF-EV platform will provide its designers ‘a blank canvas’ which has been seen in the Ariya.

By placing the air conditioning unit further forward and optimising the front and rear seating positions, Nissan says the its designers were able to give the Ariya, first cae to be built on this platform, a roomy cabin.

Not just that, the CMF-EV platform will be able to accommodate a whole host of powertrain and drivetrain packages including the carmaker’s all new e-4ORCE. We’re told that the dual motor e-4ORCE will enable Nissans strike “the perfect balance between powerful performance and unprecedented control” through precise motor input and braking.

“The CMF-EV platform is a marvel of creative engineering; from providing exceptional living-room style space – longer cabin length to vehicle length – to accommodating our state-of-the-art e-4ORCE drivetrain technology, its versatility gives us the ability to push the boundaries of engineering and design capabilities,” said Pierre Loing, Vice President, Product Planning at Nissan.

This platform is not only a big step towards the future for Nissan but also a significant effort by the whole Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance as it will underpin 15 electric models from the three brands by 2030 and help them in the achieving of the Alliance 2030 strategy.
