Peugeot 3008 2017 unveiled

There is some good news for the French automobile lovers. The not-so-popular French brand in the GCC – Peugeot – has decided to put things into perspective. It has decided to ditch the minivan styling of the 3008 and instead replace it with a SUV bodystyle for the new generation. The current minivan styling, to be honest, wasn’t impressing many and thus the drastic change to gain some foothold in the hugely popular SUV segment. Peugeot sells the 3008 as a crossover but the styling of the car is too ‘French’ for the taste and it might work in Europe but GCC especially – not so much.

Well, the second-generation 3008 was showcased earlier in front of the world before the official debut at the 2016 Paris Auto Show that will happen in late September. Coming to the car, the design of the new 3008 is based on the Peugeot Quartz Concept that was unveiled in 2014. It finally looks like a compact crossover SUV which it is meant to be. The most interesting bit in the design are the headlights and taillights. They give a sporty look yet keeping it subtle and not rash like a Lexus. The chassis is based on the 308.

The interior also looks futuristic. The whole silver and black combination with aluminum bits (mostly fake) add to the European styling. Moreover, the tablet-styled infotainment screen and the digital instrument cluster make the whole experience appealing. The 3008 will be powered by a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. Details will be released when the car is officially launched. The engine will be mated to a 6 speed automatic and the platform could be FWD or AWD or both. The first batch of 3008s will be delivered in 2017.
