RTA introduces Mahboub robot for vehicle inspection in Dubai

At the 38th Gitex Technology Week, which commenced on Sunday, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduced Mahboub – a smart inspection robot that will soon be conducting vehicle inspections across the emirate. Currently in its pilot phase, Mahboub will be installed at petrol stations and other public locations that are easily accessible by motorists.

Jamal Al Sa’adah, Director of RTA’s Vehicle Licensing department, said: “In the first phase, we will install these robots at petrol stations so that people can use them to detect faults in their cars and prevent going through potential breakdowns. Mahboub will also save people from having to go to workshops and garages to check faults in their vehicles.”

A multi-step process is set to see motorists selecting the fault reading service on Mahboub’s interactive screen, following which they will be prompted to make a payment via credit/debit card. Once the payment is processed, a slot will open in the machine and motorists will be instructed to remove a dongle and insert it into their vehicle for diagnostic purposes.

After the diagnostics are complete, motorists will be asked to remove the dongle and place it back inside the robot to analyze the data. The final step in the process is for users to enter a valid e-mail address on which they will be sent the certificate and vehicle diagnostic report. If all is successful in the first phase, RTA has already announced plans of utilizing robots such as Mahboub for annual vehicle inspection purposes.
