RTA Removes Salik Limits

Salik will be charging extra for drivers who pass through a toll gate more than six times a day. Going through a toll gate costs Dh4 to a maximum charge per day Dh24. Starting from July 15, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to remove this daily cap and mention  that it would only affect 5% of private vehicles, as the rest 95% do not pass the toll gates more than six times a day.

Small-business owners, particularly who depend on deliveries, are the ones mostly affected.

Director of Jenny Flowers International, Jenny Joseph, said that the business has been affected already by Salik, and by July 15's extra charge it will be worse. Jenny hopes he will not have to increase his flowers' cost.

Dubai has six toll gates; three on Sheikh Zayed Road and one each at Airport Tunnel, on Al Maktoum Bridge and on Al Ittihad Road.

The RTA's goal is to encourage drivers to use toll-free roads such as Al Khail and Mohammed bin Zayed roads.

As reported by The National newspaper.
