Salik Introduces New Charges for Frequent Toll Gate Users in Dubai

Salik Toll Gate

New Toll Charges Effective July 15

Salik will be charging extra for drivers who pass through a toll gate more than six times a day. Going through a toll gate costs Dh4 with a maximum charge per day of Dh24. Starting from July 15, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to remove this daily cap, mentioning that it would only affect 5% of private vehicles, as the remaining 95% do not pass the toll gates more than six times a day.

Impact on Small Business Owners

Small-business owners, particularly those who depend on deliveries, are the ones mostly affected. Director of Jenny Flowers International, Jenny Joseph, expressed that the business has already been impacted by Salik, and the extra charge effective July 15 will worsen the situation. Jenny hopes he will not have to increase the cost of his flowers.

Toll Gates in Dubai

Dubai has six toll gates located as follows:

  • Three on Sheikh Zayed Road
  • One at Airport Tunnel
  • One on Al Maktoum Bridge
  • One on Al Ittihad Road

Encouraging Use of Toll-Free Roads

The RTA's goal is to encourage drivers to use toll-free roads such as Al Khail Road and Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

As reported by The National newspaper.
