Saudi Arabia’s first-ever women-only motorsport event - Rally Jameel - is gaining interest from women all over the region and time is running out to take part in the event.

The Rally Jameel has been sanctioned by the Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) and supported by the FIA through their Women in Motorsport (WIMC) program. The Rally will not measure speed, instead it will test the navigation skills of the women as they will cover 300-500km per day. The most exciting part of the event is that the route for the next day will only be issued the night before, meaning there will be a suspense as to where the rally goes next.

Since its announcement, the rally has gained interest from all around Saudi Arabia with women aged over 18 and holding a driving license are allowed. Each team in the rally will have two women drivers and a totally unmodified 4x4 vehicle.

To ensure safety, all the vehicles will get a tracking system with SOS buttons for any emergency and a helicopter medic and maintenance team that will be ready at all stages.

“We have been really delighted with the response from women around the region and beyond, with over half of the places already filled,” commented Abdullah Bakhashab, rally director. “But I also know there will be potential racers out there who want to take part, but haven’t signed up yet. We urge them to submit their application as soon as possible, as there are only a limited number of spaces left.”

The entries to the Rally Jameel close on March 1st with the event set to take place between March 16th to 19th.
