What to expect from the highly anticipated 2018 Audi A8

Posted by Zaran Tarapore on Jul 9, 2017

The Audi A8 is the halo model in the German manufacturer’s line-up and one that competes with the likes of the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. In the upper echelons of its segment, the A8 has carved a niche out for itself, offering the ideal blend of luxury and sportiness without compromising affordability. Prior to the debut of the all-new 2018 model at the Audi Summit in Barcelona, here are a few things to expect from the German luxobarge:

Aluminum Underpinnings

Twenty-three years on since the introduction of the Audi A8 to the brand’s line-up, the all-new model is believed to feature an aluminum platform that will make it more rigid and an advanced powertrain that will make it more efficient. Lighter on its feet, the A8 is likely to retain its sporting aspirations and deliver an equal amount of punch, if not more, than the outgoing model.

Safe Styling

Unlike its rival from Stuttgart that revolutionized the segment in 2014 with the W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the 2018 Audi A8 seems to follow in the footsteps of the BMW 7-Series with an extremely safe exterior design. Previewed in the latest Spiderman blockbuster, the most significant change is seen at the rear, with the A8 adopting the Prologue concept’s light bar.

007 Tech

Jam-packed with technology, the 2018 Audi A8 is understood to be fitted with numerous radars and sensors that allow for features such as Traffic Jam Pilot, Bump Detection, and Remote Parking to work seamlessly. While the former is active at speeds of up to 55 km/h and takes complete control of the steering, throttle, and braking, the latter allows drivers to park the vehicle without being physically present inside it. Along with four-wheel steering and the brand’s Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster display, the all-new A8 will also welcome a “relaxation seat” that massages the feet of those in the back. Fancy? Oh yes!
