Vehicle Seizures and Safety Concerns

A total of 21,962 vehicles were seized during the first half of 2013 by the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate for unfit tyres. The Directorate has warned that driving with damaged or worn-out tyres can lead to tyre bursts, resulting in serious or fatal traffic accidents.

Awareness Campaign

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department at Abu Dhabi Police, stated:

“This comes in line with the awareness-raising programmes, as part of the ‘summer without accidents’ campaign launched by the Ministry of Interior, to reduce traffic accidents. It also embodies the Traffic and Patrols Directorate’s strategy, which stems from the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ key objective to make streets safer.”

Tyre Lifespan and Disposal

Tyres have a lifespan of 5 years, regardless of whether they are in storage or being used. The police also urged drivers to properly dispose of their old tyres rather than leaving them on the street.
