Bentley Launches Climate Fund to Combat Climate Change
Bentley has launched a special climate fund to aid in the fight against climate change. The British carmaker has announced that it will be investing a whopping £3 million into the Bentley Environmental Foundation this year, with donations also invited from the public and Bentley employees.
About the Bentley Environmental Foundation
To establish the Bentley Environmental Foundation, the Crewe-based carmaker teamed up with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). The foundation currently has three primary projects:
- Project Drawdown
- The Biomimicry Institute
- Sustainable Surf
More initiatives are expected to be announced in the future.
Project Drawdown
Project Drawdown aims to bridge the gap between climate funding and science-based solutions. This project will enable philanthropists and investors to collaborate effectively. The Drawdown Labs Capital Accelerator, which is set to be built under this project, aims to “influence up to $100 billion in capital flows to climate solutions by 2025.”
The Biomimicry Institute
The primary goal of the Biomimicry Institute is to assist innovators in scaling up their solutions amid competition from established businesses. The institute aims to support 10 startups or around 30 changemakers each year.
Sustainable Surf
Sustainable Surf is a non-profit organization based in California that harnesses the power of surfing to enhance the health of our oceans and combat climate change. By funding Sustainable Surf’s SeaTrees program, Bentley aims to contribute to the organization’s restoration projects, which currently operate in Kenya (where 1 million mangrove trees have already been planted) and support initiatives in Portugal and Spain.
Conclusion
Chairman and chief executive Adrian Hallmark stated: “The Bentley Environmental Foundation will fund pioneering, discovery-led initiatives that can make a positive impact beyond our own business needs, engaging customers and innovators to seek out breakthrough technologies and solutions that lead the way on reversing the effects of climate change. The opportunity to act and innovate has never been more exciting than now."
