Bentley's Investment in 3D Printing Technology
Investment Announcement
Bentley has announced a significant investment of £3 million to double its 3D printing capabilities. The British marque utilizes 3D printing technology to manufacture tooling for historic Bentley Blower Continuation models, assisted tools, and COVID-19 face shields.
Enhancing Production Efficiency
With this latest investment in Additive Manufacturing (AM), Bentley will enhance its ability to convert 3D CAD models into physical parts, thus improving the manufacturing of low-volume components and customer personalization.
Innovative Development
Bentley's advanced research and development team has successfully created physical components for several prototype Bentleys, including:
- Full-scale powertrain models
- Aerodynamic wind tunnel models
- Parts for record-breaking Bentley models in the Pikes Peak Challenge
Further investments in this technology will provide engineers at Bentley more opportunities to innovate and develop new parts for future groundbreaking models.
Comments from Leadership
Peter Bosch, Bentley's Member of the Board for Manufacturing, stated: "Bentley's approach to additive manufacturing is industry-leading and the facility is quickly becoming a cornerstone of our 'Dream Factory' ambitions. One of the key benefits is that it is efficiency-led, cutting down on the cost and complexity of a myriad of jobs."
He further added, "As we look to the future, there really is huge potential to where this advanced technology can progress, including having a greater ability to personalize parts for our customers and further enhance the individualization programme offered on every car."
