World's Most Hackable Cars: Jeep Cherokee, Infiniti Q50, and Cadillac Escalade

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2013

Introduction

Recently, a group of computer security researchers compiled a list of the world’s most hackable cars. The top three vehicles identified in this study were the Jeep Cherokee 2014, Infiniti Q50 2014, and Cadillac Escalade 2015.

Research Findings

The researchers focused on assessing car safety concerning remote attacks. Importantly, they did not conduct physical tests on the vehicles; instead, they reviewed the network architecture that could be vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Responses from Automakers

Both Chrysler and Nissan responded to these claims regarding the cybersecurity of their vehicles:

  • Chrysler: Suggested verifying the findings and, if a problem is found, remediating it.
  • Nissan: Recommended reviewing the findings for further insight.
