Launch of the Electric Vehicle
DHL Express has added its first electric vehicle, the Volkswagen e-Golf, to its delivery operations in Dubai. To facilitate this initiative, the logistics giant partnered with Al Nabooda Automobiles and received its first Volkswagen e-Golf.
Sustainability Goals
DHL aims to achieve zero emissions in its operations by 2050. To support this goal, the company has introduced not only the e-Golf but also an electric cargo bike called the "Cubicycle".
Specifications of the Volkswagen e-Golf
As the name suggests, the Volkswagen e-Golf is a fully electric version of the popular Golf hatchback, featuring:
- 35.8 kWh lithium-ion battery
- 100 kW electric motor
- Power output of 136 horsepower
- Torque of 290 Nm
- CVT gearbox
Vehicle Performance
Weighing 1.5 tons, the Volkswagen e-Golf can reach a top speed of approximately 150 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.6 seconds. Additionally, it boasts a single-charge range of up to 300 kilometers.
However, to make it suitable for deliveries, a special version of the e-Golf has been customized for DHL. According to DHL Express, the Volkswagen e-Golf will be able to cover 250 kilometers on a single charge.
Initial Usage
Initially, DHL Express will utilize the Volkswagen e-Golf exclusively for the delivery and collection of various documents in congested areas of Dubai. These areas typically include:
- Busy areas around the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC)
- Downtown Dubai
Moving forward, DHL Express plans to expand the reach and responsibilities of the Volkswagen e-Golf throughout the UAE.
