Increase in Traffic Fatalities in Dubai and New Traffic Management Decisions to Enhance Safety
Dubai has witnessed a staggering 77% increase in traffic fatalities during the first quarter of the year. In response to this alarming statistic, the Dubai Traffic Department has initiated a new safety campaign this week. Key measures in this campaign include a 30% increase in police patrols and the installation of additional speed radars, particularly in high-accident areas.
The Commander of Dubai Police, Dhahi Khalfan, aims to reduce traffic fatalities to 100 cases this year, down from 123 cases last year.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director of the General Department of Traffic, stated to the newspaper Al-Ittihad:
All patrols have been instructed to intensify measures against violators, including the immediate impounding of vehicles from those driving at dangerously high speeds, and referring them to police stations with criminal charges for endangering the lives of others.
