Interview Insights
At the opening ceremony in the Al Quoz district, Fadi Habr from YallaMotor sat down with Karel Kucera, Managing Director of Continental Middle East, for an engaging and insightful conversation regarding the German tyre manufacturer’s future plans.
Services Offered by Continental
Fadi: What services is Continental offering?
(Karel Kucera) KK: We are offering tyres and tyre-related services, plus fastening services and additional services such as:
- AC servicing
- Oil changes
- Batteries
- Suspension
- Brakes
This offering is based on a survey conducted among UAE drivers, and we will expand our services based on market feedback and demand.
Product Launches and Sustainability Focus
Fadi: Any other product launches?
KK: We are focused on sustainability. We produce tyres made from recycled PET bottles, which is a special initiative as sustainability is a crucial topic for the UAE. We are already offering these tyres in Europe and are now introducing them in the UAE, with the goal of producing all tyres from recycled materials by 2050.
Continental's Unique Position
Fadi: What makes Continental different from other brands?
KK: We are launching the BestDrive concept, which is unique. It's a premium retail concept for tyres, and we have just introduced this brand in the Middle East. Continental is a leading automotive supplier that doesn't just focus on tyres but also offers other products in the accessories sector, which strengthens our partnerships with dealers.
The Rise of Electric Vehicles
Nowadays, electric cars are becoming more prevalent in the UAE. Electric cars differ significantly from combustion engine vehicles, and it's crucial for our tyres to fit these unique demands. Electric vehicles are generally heavier—close to 2 tons—which is about 30% heavier than combustion engine cars. Additionally, electric cars operate quietly, which necessitates the development of quiet tyres capable of transmitting higher torque to the ground.
