Introduction

Audi Middle East invited media to the beautiful Oman to test drive the all-new Audi Q7. The roads in Oman are perfect, with slopes and curves that offer a dynamic experience for the Q7. The valley trails allowed us to explore the capabilities of this SUV on rough terrain. Let us share the details with you.

Car Design

Audi Q7 Interior Design

To start, the new Q7 is the most beautiful model yet. The previous generation appeared bulkier and, in my opinion, resembled a Touareg but with Audi branding. Fortunately, this generation showcases Audi's distinctive design with its clean lines and signature lights. The new Q7 is slightly smaller externally than its predecessor, yet it feels more spacious inside. Additionally, its weight has been significantly reduced. Combine all these factors, and you have a stunning and fierce vehicle.

Technology and Interior

The story continues inside as well. Audi employed the TT design language for the Q7, featuring a simple dashboard, a digital screen, and touch-sensitive buttons. Personally, I fell in love when I first saw the digital dashboard in the TT. However, it may take some time to get accustomed to it, as the functions are split between the steering wheel controls and the MMI. Once you adapt, everything becomes incredibly intuitive. Adding to the experience are the supremely comfortable seats and lovely ambient lighting, making the interior feel exceptionally luxurious and sophisticated. Frankly, it might be the most beautiful interior among German cars.

Driving and Performance

Finally, we arrive at the main aspect of the vehicle – the driving experience. Audi currently offers only the V6 engine. But don't worry; the supercharged V6 (delivering 333 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque) doesn't just take you from point A to B; it does so with speed. Logically, the car's lightweight design makes the V6 a perfect fit. Moreover, with lower carbon emissions, the V6 is a better option. There may be a V8 in the future, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Driving Experience

We drove on smooth roads and gravel paths to experience both of its personalities. On the street, it feels as though you're driving a sedan, making it easy to handle. Switch it to "Comfort" mode, and you won't feel anything on the road; even the wind noise is hardly noticeable. Change it to "Sport" mode, and you'll tackle corners with finesse. The aluminum chassis keeps you grounded at high speeds and through turns. Combine this with the 8-speed ZF transmission and the powerful engine, and you’re sure to feel the adrenaline. On rough terrain, you hardly feel the Q7 in its element; the suspension may leave you fatigued after a while. While it performs well in valleys, don't expect it to conquer the dunes due to the lower gearing. The Q7 is a sporty SUV, but it is not a desert king.

Conclusion

In summary, I believe it was wise for Audi to take six years to update the vehicle. The Q7 is a beloved SUV, and the improvements needed to be substantial to continue its success. The new Q7 has everything required to maintain the momentum of this prestigious brand.
