The German automotive industry is synonymous with luxury. Three titans dominate this segment: the BMW 7 Series, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and the Audi A8. I had the privilege of driving the Audi A8 for several days, but not just any A8—it was the A8 L W12.

Exterior Design

Upon receiving the keys and heading to the car park, I was immediately captivated by the Audi. Its beauty is striking! The LED headlights and the classic Audi front grille give it a fierce appearance while maintaining its heritage. The 21-inch wheels complement its grand size perfectly. The "W12" badges on all four sides set it apart from other A8 models. The white exterior with black trim around the panoramic sunroof creates a stunning combination that exudes luxury.

Interior

The A8 features a smart entry system that unlocks the car just by placing your hand under the door handle and locks it by touching the sensor on the inner handle. Once inside, you'll notice leather everywhere—from the dashboard to the steering wheel, the center console, and the doors. Even the door trims are upholstered in suede leather. The Audi is equipped with everything you need and more! It comes with a Quad Zone climate control system, the best I’ve ever seen. The seats have heating and cooling capabilities, allowing you to make both the front and rear seats very cool, which is an excellent feature for the hot Gulf days. All seats can be adjusted for passenger comfort with at least 8 control buttons. If that’s not enough, Audi has included massage options in all four seats!

The rear legroom is spacious, thanks to the additional 5 inches added to the wheelbase.

Technology

The vehicle is equipped with several technological features, most of which assist the driver in various ways. One of my favorite features is the Audi night vision, activated by a button next to the steering wheel, which turns on an infrared camera located in the front grille. This camera reveals objects beyond the reach of the headlights. This feature provides both visual and audio alerts if an object is detected. Another impressive feature is the adaptive cruise control, which allows you to set your speed and the distance from the car ahead, automatically adjusting the speed to maintain that distance. Additionally, the collision warning system alerts you if the vehicle in front slows down quickly, automatically applying stronger brakes to bring the car to a complete stop. One of the most remarkable features is the lane assist, which detects if the car drifts out of its lane and vibrates the steering wheel to alert the driver. The car is also equipped with six cameras—one for each corner, one in the front, and one in the rear. As if that weren't enough, it has a blind spot monitor that alerts the driver if there is a vehicle in the blind spot.

In terms of entertainment, it features a "Bang & Olufsen" system with 9 speakers and 3 subwoofers, delivering astonishing sound clarity! However, when compared to the audio system in the A6, the A6 has more to offer in sound quality, which surprised me. The Audi also has a SIM card slot, allowing you to use the car as a phone and a Wi-Fi hotspot, connecting up to 8 devices simultaneously. Rear passengers can enjoy their ride with individual screens and controls for massage, audio, and video preferences. The Audi has so many features that if I were to discuss each one, it would turn into a book rather than an article!

Performance

The Audi we tested is powered by a W12 engine. This 6.3 liter engine produces 500 horsepower. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds! The Audi's brakes have six pistons, similar to those found on the Porsche Cayenne, providing stopping power that rivals many sports cars. Given the immense power of the A8, fuel consumption is noteworthy, showing 16.7 liters per 100 km on the highway and 27.4 liters per 100 km in the city. However, I doubt that anyone spending half a million dirhams on a car would be overly concerned about fuel efficiency. In terms of performance, the car is excellent—handling is superb, steering is fantastic, and the engine power is simply incredible!

Conclusion

In summary, the Audi A8 is phenomenal. It commands respect on the road, with pedestrians stopping to admire it. The driving experience is smooth and delightful. This particular A8 is priced at 520,000 dirhams. Yes, that’s quite a price, but driving it is nothing short of a joy.
