Ford Empowers Saudi Female Journalists in Automotive Journalism
In a groundbreaking move set to make history, Ford Middle East and Africa, headquartered in Dubai, welcomed two Saudi female journalists into the traditionally male-dominated world of automotive journalism. This initiative comes just days before the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia lifts its ban on women driving. Layan Damanhouri and Nawal Turki AlJabr spent two days engaging with Ford Middle East’s Product Development and Engineering teams, as well as the brand’s storytelling teams, acquiring essential new skills in Dubai.
“This is a historic moment and a unique opportunity to encourage women to become involved in an exciting career. Excellent automotive writing thrives on the independent views of well-informed journalists – and we’re excited to help these two female journalists find their voice and share their unique perspective on the motoring industry,” said Sue Nigoghossian, General Manager of MENA Communications at Ford.
Skills Acquired During the Program
During their enriching two-day trip to Dubai, the journalists learned various skills, including but not limited to:
- Identifying key features and technologies needed for evaluating and test driving vehicles.
- Writing engaging and compelling stories related to automotive experiences.
- Creating striking car photography to accompany their articles.
Layan Damanhouri, a writer for the English daily Saudi Gazette, expressed her thoughts: “It’s been a very enjoyable and enlightening experience to learn about the different aspects of automotive journalism, particularly regarding media trips, test drives, storytelling, writing, and photography. What I liked about this introductory program is learning about the basics of a car from the experts themselves.”
