The Ferrari 296 Speciale is finally here as a track-dedicated next step in 296 GTB evolution, further refining hybrid supercar engineering to an even more potent and cutting-edge level.

This latest edition, which has coupe and convertible (Speciale A) trim options, synergizes more powerful output, minimal weight reduction, and state-of-the-art aerodynamics to serve up the best driving experience money can buy.

And yes, this is the replacement for the Ferrari 458 Speciale.

Powertrain updates

At the core of the 296 Speciale is a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, now featuring titanium connecting rods, improved pistons, and a reduced crankshaft, delivers 690 horsepower. Supporting this is an electric motor adding another 177 horsepower, for a total output of 867 horsepower.

This power is transmitted exclusively to the rear wheels through an optimized eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing for crisp and responsive gear changes.

Weight Saving and Aerodynamics

Ferrari has also managed to save considerable weight on the 296 Speciale, with the coupe losing 132 pounds and the convertible losing 110 pounds over their predecessors. The main reason for the weight loss lies in the increased use of carbon fiber throughout the interior and body panels.

Aerodynamically, the Speciale has new front and rear bumpers, a large rear diffuser, and a retractable rear wing that adjusts according to speed and drive mode. These additions add to a 20% increase in downforce compared to the regular 296 GTB and GTS models.

Chassis and Handling

To manage the added power and performance, the 296 Speciale comes with firmer titanium springs and Multimatic adjustable shocks borrowed from the 296 GT3 racing car.

The ride height is reduced, and the car is equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires specifically designed. These changes provide better handling and stability on the track and on the road.

Interior Design

Inside, the 296 Speciale takes a minimalist philosophy centered on weight reduction and driver interaction. The cabin uses exposed carbon fiber components, light seats, and a streamlined center console. While the reduced design, the interior still holds Ferrari's dedication to luxury and craftsmanship.

Pricing and Availability

The 296 Speciale costs €407,000 as a coupe and €462,000 as a convertible in Italy. Although not a limited edition, Ferrari aims to keep it exclusive by keeping production low. Deliveries of the coupe will begin in the first quarter of 2026, with the convertible following in the second quarter.
