What originally got you into cars?
Being an aircraft technician I always liked speed and the thrill you feel when the aircraft flies. So I choose to fly on the road ;)
How did you first get involved with Gumball 7 and how long have you been a member?
Through a friend and it's been around 6 months
What do you get out of being part of the Gumball 7 club in the UAE?
Get to know new people, always like to make new friends. It's good to meet people with similar interests.
On a sunny Friday afternoon 17 muscle and tuner car enthusiasts met at an E.N.O.C petrol station on Oud Metha road. What ensued was a family driving across the country enjoying their rides and having a blast. I arrived at the meet location and was greeted by a man called Karan, who with three of his best mates put this club together a few years ago. Ever since then the club has grown tremendously with around 130 registered users. The Gumball 7 team manage to pull off four events each year, now even though this may not sound like many you have to consider that half the year is undrivable due to the weather. It's clear they’re doing a great job at keeping the car culture in the UAE alive and kicking.
We started off by admiring and discussing the cars that had turned up from Porsche 911’s to GT86’s to Mustang’s. This was followed up by a meeting attended by all of the participants and Karan explained the basic rules of representing the Club. Have fun but be safe and no racing. I was starting to fall for the club and what it stood for, everyone like-minded and understood each other, even if they hadn't met before. At 4.30pm we all started to buckle up and head out. My heart was racing with excitement as the engines started turning over, this is going to be one hell of a day I said to myself quietly.
We drove through the twisty mountains of Fujairah for over an hour where the engines were echoing off the cliffs either side of us. Everyone was having an awesome time and again I knew this was where I belonged. When you drive with a group like this everything goes out the window, there's not a worry in the world that could take you away from the memories you are making at that very time.
We entered into Fujairah at 6pm and made our way to the Bikers Cafe on the beach shore. After arriving at the cafe we all parked our cars in a line along the waterfront, this presented a great photo opportunity with the backdrop enhancing the beauty of all these great cars in one spot. We were greeted by the owner of the Bikers cafe who invited us into his restaurant where we all enjoyed food, drinks and shisha together along with much laughter.
If there is one thing I take away from this event is the sense of family. Every member who is part of the Gumball 7 Club is very welcoming to outsiders. I had a brilliant time and can't wait for the next event.
