The Salik System in Dubai and Its Impact on Drivers
The Salik toll system will soon impose additional fines on drivers who pass through any of its gates more than six times a day. The toll charge is 4 AED per crossing, with a maximum daily limit of 24 AED.
Upcoming Changes
Starting from July 15, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) plans to remove the daily cap, stating that this change will only affect 5% of private vehicles. The remaining 95% of vehicles typically do not exceed six crossings in a day.
Impact of the System on Businesses
Small business owners, particularly those reliant on delivery services, are the most affected by this toll system.
Business Owners' Experiences
Jenny Joseph, the manager of Zahrat Genie International, expressed that their business has already felt the impact of Salik. She anticipates that conditions will worsen starting from July 15. Jenny hopes to avoid raising the prices of her flowers due to these changes.
Salik Gates
Dubai has six Salik gates: three located on Sheikh Zayed Road, one at the airport tunnel, one on Al Maktoum Bridge, and one on Al Ittihad Road.
The Goal of the System
The RTA aims to encourage drivers to utilize free roads, such as Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
