Introduction
Following the release of teaser images that sparked curiosity among automotive enthusiasts, Infiniti has unveiled a new set of images of its heritage-inspired prototype car, the Prototype 9. This car is set to be officially revealed at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
Car Design
The Infiniti Prototype 9 pays homage to the classic Silver Arrow, drawing inspiration from vintage racing cars. Its exterior design features:
- Handcrafted aluminum panels
- An open cockpit
- Exposed wire-style wheels
Performance and Technology
Despite its vintage appearance, Infiniti has designed the Prototype 9 with modern standards in mind. The vehicle utilizes next-generation power from the Nissan Leaf, which includes:
- A rear-mounted electric motor
- A 30 kWh battery
- A power output of 148 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque
Although the figures may seem modest, the Prototype 9 weighs just 890 kg, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, with a top speed of 168 km/h.
Drawbacks and Challenges
Despite its features, certain aspects of the design have received criticism, including:
- An unusual hood design
- A lackluster front grille
- A charging time of just 20 minutes, which gives the impression of a toy car
