Audi A8L Extended: The New Luxury Limousine
Introduction
Not many automotive companies manufacture a six-door limousine, making it a rare and distinctive vehicle. The first thought that comes to mind when hearing "six-door limousine" is often the classic Mercedes seen in films. Mercedes continues to produce such designs, with their latest offering being the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Pullman. Another competitor in this elite segment is the Bentley Mulsanne. However, these brands are few and far between.
Audi Joins the Limousine Market
The good news for limousine enthusiasts is that Audi has joined this exclusive market. Yes, Audi has made a bold move by introducing their new A8L Extended limousine. With this model, it’s clear they have built upon their existing luxury sedan offerings, promising a lavish interior experience.
Specifications and Details
- Length: 6.37 meters
- Wheelbase: 4.2 meters
- Weight: Approximately 2.5 tons
- Wheels: 19 inches sourced from the S8 model
According to Audi, it took one year to develop this vehicle, constructed from aluminum for enhanced strength. The Audi A8L Extended features three rows of seats, accommodating six passengers. Each row includes privacy curtains, and the seats are upholstered in a special leather known as Valencia. Additionally, the seats are electrically adjustable, with the third row offering the most comfort, including an entertainment screen and a refrigerator.
Engine Performance
The increased size of this vehicle contributes to its considerable weight of around 2.5 tons. However, I was somewhat disappointed with the engine choice; it is not a large V8 or V12 as found in Audi’s higher-performance models. Instead, it is equipped with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing 310 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h.
