Introduction

The new Kia EV6 has been launched, bringing with it a long driving range and zero-emission power, along with ultra-fast charging capabilities at 800 volts and a distinctive design in the crossover vehicle market. Notably, the EV6 is Kia's first vehicle built on the company’s new dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform.

Design and Philosophy

The EV6 features a futuristic design tailored for electric vehicles, characterized by advanced technological details. This car operates solely on electric power, offering multiple options for long-range, zero-emission powertrains. Thanks to the 800-volt charging system, the EV6 can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Performance

The GT model of the EV6, engineered to deliver an exhilarating driving experience, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 260 km/h.

Electric Platform

The EV6 is the first all-electric battery vehicle produced by Kia using the completely new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It marks the beginning of Kia's transition into a new era characterized by electrification under its new slogan, "Movement that Inspires."

Kia's Electric Vehicle Strategy

As part of this initiative, Kia aims to grow its battery electric vehicle sales to 880,000 units by 2030. By then, battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are expected to constitute 40% of Kia's total sales.

Powertrain Options

The EV6 offers buyers multiple options for fully electric, zero-emission powertrains, including:

  • Long-range batteries (77.4 kWh)
  • Standard-range batteries (58.0 kWh)
  • Options for two-wheel drive (2WD) and all-wheel drive (AWD)

Model Performance

The dual-drive models with the 77.4 kWh battery can cover over 510 kilometers (316 miles) on a single charge, according to WLTP testing figures. With a maximum torque output of 605 Nm in the all-wheel-drive version, the EV6 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds.

Production and Availability

The EV6 will be produced in South Korea and will be available for purchase in selected global markets starting in the second half of 2021, with online reservations opening on March 30 in certain regions.

Conclusion

Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia, stated, "The EV6 embodies the new Kia brand, designed to inspire every journey through bold design, advanced engineering, innovative technology, and enjoyable electric performance."
