This uniqueness in conception, colossal focus on sustainability, and techniques to optimize utility for the consumer make designing and launching products a challenging task. Additionally, obstinate government regulations compound the system.

To allow itself and the world a glimpse into the future of design and philosophies, Lexus has been organizing the much-coveted event, Lexus Design Award 2023: Call for Entries, since 2013. This competition serves as a platform for aspiring designers to explore their innovative ideas in the fields of design and architecture, receiving guidance from some of the world’s most renowned experts for mentoring.

Competition Structure

With its aim pinned on fostering novice designers, this competition has evolved to facilitate a program where four winners will be chosen from the entries received. A delegation of judges will evaluate each individual’s idea, followed by a conclave with the winners.

Focus on Sustainability and Innovation

The winners will have to devise designs with a crystal-clear focus on sustainability and innovation, explaining how their designs uphold the three pillars of Lexus’ design philosophy: ‘Anticipate, Innovate, and Captivate.’ The designs should embody a bodacious outlook, detailing the process by which the creations overcome societal bottlenecks and emphasizing the benefits they can provide to society. The designs must exemplify both form and function while being thought-provoking and radically new.

Post-Competition Support

Once the panel of judges declares the four winners, they will receive guidance to strengthen their foundational knowledge and develop new strategies and understanding of contemporary designs. To further enhance their projects, a budget of approximately AED 83,000 will be allocated to each contestant, covering model fabrication and other related costs. By the spring of 2023, the winners will unveil their respective accomplishments, which will then be assessed by the fraternity of esteemed judges. This will provide them with an invaluable opportunity to discuss their design insights and receive guidance on their future ambitions and career trajectories in this exhilarating yet challenging profession.
