Maserati has goaded exciting action in recent times with the introduction of its SUV, the Grecale, and a supercar which harks back to its pedigree with plenary details, the MC20. The brand upholds the fervor of its fans and the aplomb forebears who left behind, an inspiring lineage by revealing two versions of its MC20 supercar, christened- the Icona and Leggenda.
The cars make their appearance to pay homage to the 20th anniversary of the brand’s renaissance to competition in 2004 with a brutally fast scalpel in the form of the MC12 that not only broke records at races but also gave new wings to the brand’s fortunes.
THE MC20 ICONA
As the name suggests, the Icona iteration reminisces the legendary MC12’s special livery featuring hues of the 2004 MC12 Stradale while also serving as an ode to the panache of the Maserati Trofeo Light, which set a stellar epitome of perseverance and velocity in completing 24 Hours of Daytona.
Certain traits from Maserati’s customization program, bearing the moniker- Fuoriserie encompass the styling persona of the MC12 such as the combination of Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale colours as the embellishment for the exterior. The Fuoriserie emblem is neatly positioned on the side along with the Italian flag executed beneath the MC20 name mention.
Unmissed attention to detail is found in the center of the chrome-garnished wheels where the blue Maserati logo creates a nice fusion with the silver hubcaps. Spreading the blue theme, are blue brake calipers to seamlessly integrate with the wheel design.
For any supercar, attention given to the engine bay and power plant is indispensable. Hence, the MC20 Icona has its engine cover swathed in carbon fiber.
THE MC20 LEGGENDA
Where its Icona sibling disperses understated charm with its livery, the Leggenda emulates the typical appearance of a true-blue Formula 1 car. Quote it as a theme of sea blue and black or in Maserati’s parlance, a medley of Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte colours, the Leggenda certainly evokes aggression.
These colours also pay tribute to the MC12 GT1, the car that propelled the Vitaphone Racing fraternity. This car achieved a commendable three victories followed by two runner-up incumbents in the exhilarating 24-hour Spa. Upon opening the engine bay, eyeballs instantly grab the lettering – “ICONA. UNA DI 20” for the Icona variant and “LEGGENDA. UNA DI 20” for the Leggenda version.
This car too, features an iconic ornate for the wheels as a picturesque of Nero Lucido with Nero Opaco is flaunted wonderfully. The hubcaps come painted in Digital Mint colour while Maserati’s Trident logo is polished in Yellow on the grille, doors and C-pillar areas. In keeping with the remainder of the car’s motif, its brake calipers are done in black.
INTERIOR
Celebrating an iconic car is not justified without tweaking the interior. The cars feature lightweight 4-way racing seats where the central portion of seats in Icona comes engraved in Nero/Blu and silver backdrop and Nero on silver surrounding for the Leggenda iteration.
FEATURES
To arouse modernity in features sanctioned for this car, its wing mirrors are blessed with auto-dimming, famed Sonus faber sound system, carbon-fiber interior, electronically limited slip differential, adaptive suspension, blind-spot warning with emergency stop and rear-cross traffic alert.
The MC12 came into being by the legendary designed, Giorgetto Giugiaro who integrated a mammoth 12-cylinder engine under the hood, being bequ eathed by Ferrari. In effect, this turned out to be the most rapid Maserati car to date, achieving a top shot of 330 Km/h and catapulting to 100 Km/h from nada in just 3.8 seconds.
The MC20 and its Icona and Leggenda brethren are successors of a dynasty, so doughty and spirited, that they have huge shoes to fill in. However, looking at the exquisite workmanship put behind their manufacturing and the outcome the brand has achieved, the limited-run 20 units of each, certainly would make the predecessors proud and let the pedigree burgeon.
