Nissan and McLaren Join Forces for Formula E Championship
Collaboration Announcement
McLaren and Nissan have announced a multi-year technical collaboration for the upcoming season of the Formula E championship, effective from the 2022/23 Formula season.
Nissan's Role in Formula E
The Japanese carmaker, Nissan, will supply electric powertrains for McLaren Racing’s Formula E challenger. With the Gen3 homologation rules coming into play, McLaren announced its entry into Formula E back in May, while many anticipated Nissan's advancement in electric car technology.
Nissan's History in Formula E
Nissan replaced its sister company Renault in the championship, entering Formula E during the 2018/19 season in partnership with the French e.dams team. Earlier this year, Nissan announced the full acquisition of the French team.
Nissan's Electric Vehicle Strategy
Beyond Formula E, Nissan is showcasing its electric expertise by aiming for 50% of its sales to be electric vehicles as part of the Ambition 2030 strategy, with plans to introduce 23 electric models in its range.
McLaren's Electric Future
While McLaren has yet to release a fully electric car, it has unveiled the all-new Artura, a supercar that marks the beginning of a new era for McLaren supercars with its hybrid technology and brand new platform.
