Overview of New Anti-Smoking Laws
Dubai’s Traffic Police chief reported that drivers who throw lit cigarettes out of their car will face significant penalties. Under the new anti-smoking federal law in the UAE, these drivers will receive:
- 4 black points added to their traffic record
- A fine of Dh500
Enforcement of Smoking Regulations
Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen emphasized that some drivers have already faced punishment for violating these laws. Additionally, at the start of 2014, another law will be enforced that will totally ban smoking inside cars.
Impact on Families
“Parents and relatives who smoke inside cars are perpetrating a crime against their children,” Major General Al Zafeen stated. This concern has led to the issuance of strict laws regarding smoking in vehicles.
Consequences for Violators
Alongside the previously mentioned penalties, there is a law that imposes:
- A fine of Dh500 for throwing cigarettes out of cars
- Four black points on the driver’s record
“I myself have punished some drivers for such offences,” he added, highlighting the seriousness of these regulations.
