Toyota Fortuner: A Comprehensive Review of Features and Performance
The Toyota Fortuner has been the go-to SUV for those scouting a robust seven-seater that can conquer everything in its path. Present in the Middle East since 2006, the Fortuner has built a strong connection with its audience through its renowned reliability. Following a five-year run of the current generation, Toyota has unveiled a facelift that adds essential features, technology, and design updates to keep the model relevant in today's market.
Exterior
To understand the updates, it’s best to compare the current and pre-facelift models side by side, as this is when the changes become apparent. While the styling still carries Lexus-inspired design cues, notable revisions include:
- New mesh pattern for the grille
- Stubby skid plate on the bumper
- LED lights at the bottom
- Slightly tweaked headlamps with LED features
- Honeycomb pattern for the air intakes
These updates justify the facelift and provide the freshness the model needed. Minimal updates are evident on the side, with only a different wheel design. Nevertheless, the Toyota Fortuner maintains a strong road presence due to its tall stature, high shoulder line, and roof rails, essential features for any SUV.
The rear has seen minor updates with tweaked taillamps featuring a new pattern for the red inserts in the LED lights.
Interior
The cockpit of the Fortuner has always offered a pleasant experience, boasting ample space and a commanding view of the road. The facelift introduces an updated infotainment system that includes modern features such as:
- Apple CarPlay
- Android Auto
Additionally, the screen size has increased for better visibility, and a redesigned speedometer enhances the instrument binnacle's novelty.
Features
The Toyota Fortuner is equipped with a variety of driver assistance and convenience features, including:
- 6 speakers
- Vehicle stability control
- ABS with EBD
- Tyre pressure monitoring system
- Airbags for front passenger and driver’s knee airbag
Performance
The facelift continues to offer two eminent engine choices: a 2.7-litre and a 4.0-litre gasoline option. These powerplants deliver:
- 2.7-litre engine: 164 hp and 245 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
- 4.0-litre engine: 235 hp and 376 Nm of torque, also paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The less powerful variant accelerates from 0-100 Km/h in over 12 seconds, while the more powerful option completes the sprint in around 9 seconds. The Toyota Fortuner is also available in a 4-wheel drive configuration, making it suitable for off-road adventures such as dune bashing.
Despite the facelift, competition has evolved significantly, as seen with the recent introduction of the X-Terra in the region. The question remains: will the Toyota Fortuner continue to compete effectively against its Japanese rivals?
