Nissan's Initiatives to Support COVID-19 Response in India

Financial Contributions and Equipment

In response to the COVID-19 crisis in India, following a surge in cases after the second wave, Nissan announced a contribution of $895,000 to the Tamil Nadu State Relief Fund and over $34,500 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, Nissan provided more than $590,000 worth of equipment to combat COVID-19, including masks and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Measures to Ensure Employee Health and Safety

The company has implemented various measures to ensure the health and safety of its employees and their families globally, as well as in local communities where it operates. Embodying its culture of prioritizing humanity, Nissan announced in April the availability of body temperature screening technology to the public at no cost.

  • This technology was developed and implemented in its factories in Japan.
  • The system uses a non-contact thermometer or thermal camera to measure employees' body temperatures upon entering the facility.

Temperature Measurement Technology

To help limit the spread of COVID-19, Nissan has made this low-cost technology available under open access to patents. Licenses for use have been issued for several products developed by "Chino" and "Saiko."

Support for Relief Equipment in India

In India, as part of its support for relief equipment during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nissan has distributed the following items in recent months:

  • N-95 masks.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Oxygen concentrators.
  • Portable ECG devices.
  • X-ray machines.
  • Oxygen level measuring devices.
  • Nasopharyngeal oxygen machines.

In partnership with the Global Community Service Center, Nissan has distributed ready-to-eat food boxes to migrant workers and those in need to address hunger during the pandemic lockdown.

Management Comments on the Initiatives

Commenting on the initiative, Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, stated:

"The safety of our communities, customers, partners, and employees remains our top priority, which is why we have launched several initiatives in collaboration with official authorities and NGOs."

Health and Safety Measures in Place

Nissan continues to intensify its health and safety measures regarding the COVID-19 pandemic at its factories, offices, and dealerships. With the assistance of government health centers, vaccines will be administered to most employees and contractors.

Nissan India has also distributed personal protective equipment and increased the insurance amounts to ensure families are supported in nearby hospitals.

Nissan's Commitment to Health and Safety Standards

Pigeon Palendran, Managing Director of Renault Nissan Automotive India, said:

"The health and safety of our communities, partners, and employees are our top priorities. Therefore, we continue to take necessary steps to protect them."

Nissan has placed great importance on employee safety through structural measures that include:

  • Limiting vehicle occupancy and café seating to 50%.
  • Removing fingerprint scanners for attendance tracking.
  • Implementing a "COVID-19 Key" system to avoid touching buttons and doors.

Raising Awareness About Safety Measures

To promote awareness about COVID-19 safety initiatives, Nissan has established mandatory online training modules.
