Abu Dhabi Parking Meter

In a move to organize parking spaces across the city and reduce improper parking offences, all parking bays across Abu Dhabi city will be paid from August 18th onwards. The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport has urged all motorists and vehicle owners to obtain residential parking permits before the implementation to avoid hefty fines and penalties.

First introduced in 2009 across the busiest areas of the capital, paid parking has since become far more popular. Turquoise and black parking spaces indicate a standard bay with a price of AED 2 per hour, while turquoise and white parking spaces indicate a premium bay with a price of AED 3 per hour. Over the years, the Department of Transport has also set up paid parking within residential neighborhoods to ease the parking shortage.

From August 18th onwards, motorists will have to pay to park in areas such as Al Muroor and Al Bateen, areas that were previously free. Residents living in these areas would also need to obtain residential permits unless they choose to pay parking tariffs on an hourly basis. Individuals without residential permits cannot park in residential allocated spaces between 9PM and 8AM.

Annual residential parking permits for expats cost AED 800 for the first permit and AED 1,200 for the second permit. Permits can also be purchased twice a year, with AED 400 being the cost for the first car and AED 600 for the second car.
