Performance of Renault in the Middle East: An Interview with Leslie Ramsoomar

Leslie Ramsoomar - Renault Middle East

Leslie Ramsoomar, the Sales Director for Renault in the Middle East, joined us on our recent trip to Paris for the launch of the Koleos and Talisman. He shared insights regarding Renault's performance in the region.

Key Characteristics of Renault Customers in the Gulf States

The Gulf market is vast, comprising multiple countries and nationalities, making it challenging to pinpoint definitive customer characteristics. Generally, we can say that customers in the Middle East seek:

  • Good deals
  • High quality
  • Advanced specifications

Renault consistently delivers on all these fronts.

Renault's Expectations for the Coming Months

What do you anticipate from Renault in the Gulf, particularly in the UAE, in the coming months?

It can be said that we have new releases on the way; however, I cannot disclose too much information at this stage. Nevertheless, the launch of the Renault Koleos and Talisman in the fourth quarter of 2016 will bring a fresh appeal to our customers in the UAE.

Evaluating Renault's Performance in the UAE

How would you evaluate Renault's current performance in the UAE?

We are pleased with Renault's performance in the UAE market. Although the market has decreased by 20%, Renault's performance has increased by 12% since last year. Additionally, we have boosted our market share by 0.8% over the same period.

Renault's Market Share Figures in the Middle East

Since you mentioned numbers, could you share Renault's market share percentage in the Middle East?

Currently, Renault holds a 2.6% market share in the Middle East.

Challenges in the Gulf Market

What is your perspective on the Gulf market and the challenges it currently faces?

The Gulf states are currently experiencing a tough phase with a market decline of 20%, and even up to 30% in some areas. While this poses challenges for us, we are content with Renault's performance, having managed to increase our market share.
