Risks of Counterfeit Car Parts in the UAE

Introduction
The growing risk of counterfeit car parts poses a significant challenge for authorities in the UAE. Despite imposing heavy fines on those involved in the trade or use of these parts, numerous counterfeit items continue to be seized across the country.
Experiment Conducted by Arabian Automobiles
To raise awareness about the dangers of counterfeit car parts, Arabian Automobiles, the exclusive dealer of Nissan vehicles in the UAE, conducted a simple experiment during the Dubai International Motor Show. The experiment involved engaging attendees to see if they could distinguish between everyday household and office items and genuine car parts.
Details of the Experiment
The first step of the experiment involved labeling containers with the word "fake" in English, but with the letters rearranged to resemble a fictional manufacturer name "Kefa." The containers included:
- A kitchen strainer presented as an air filter
- A printer ink cartridge presented as a fuel injector
- A shower drain filter presented as brake pads
Convincing the Attendees
To enhance the intrigue of the experiment, these items were packaged in boxes resembling those of legitimate car parts, making them appear as authentic automotive components. Attendees were persuaded that these items were made from recyclable plastic, promoting them as environmentally friendly options.
Results of the Experiment
Although some attendees were not deceived by the counterfeit items, many others fell victim to the ruse. They were convinced that these items were indeed genuine car parts, highlighting that many people are unaware of whether the components they purchase for their vehicles are counterfeit, which could pose risks to themselves and others while driving on the streets of the UAE.
