Shell Concept Car: A Revolution in the Automotive World
Introduction
Shell has made an exciting move by creating a prototype civilian car, which they claim will revolutionize the automotive industry. This concept car accommodates three people with one front seat and two rear seats.
Initial Energy Reduction
According to a study conducted by independent agencies, the overall initial energy consumption will be reduced by 34% by the end of the vehicle's lifecycle, compared to conventional cars currently used in the UK. These figures are significant and impactful.
Design Concept
The idea behind the Shell car is to change how vehicles are manufactured. Shell employs a process called co-engineering, which involves creating the car's body, engine, and lubricants together. This method also aims to conserve energy. The vehicle weighs only 550 kg, and some of its components are produced using 3D printers.
The body is made from recycled carbon fiber. Additionally, there is a modified version of the Shell Driving App, which provides drivers with information to help them improve their driving efficiency.
Performance Details
Regarding performance metrics, the vehicle has been tested to achieve a fuel consumption rate of 2.64 L/100 km at a speed of 50 km/h. Testing was conducted both in city streets and on highways. Compared to gasoline and hybrid cars, this vehicle produced lower CO2 emissions than all competitors. Furthermore, Shell's specialized lubricants reduce CO2 emissions by 5% compared to other engine oils.
