The Volkswagen Touareg has been a significant product for the German brand since its debut in 2002. This SUV has gained popularity for its comfort and practicality, and the all-new third-generation model continues to uphold this reputation while competing with Japanese rivals like the Infiniti QX70 and Lexus RX.
Driving Experience
What started as a short pre-drive briefing at the Four Seasons Hotel in DIFC led to a 100-kilometer route from Dubai’s bustling city center to Nazwa, Dhaid, Adhen Village, Masafi, and back. This route showcased the Touareg’s mild off-road capabilities while also allowing for stops at tourist attractions, such as Fujairah’s famous Friday Market for a delicious chilled coconut shake.
Design and Build Quality
The all-new Touareg stands noticeably wider and longer than its predecessor. However, this increase in dimensions has not compromised its performance. Utilizing a combination of aluminum and high-tech steels, the 2019 Touareg is 106 kg lighter than the previous model, enhancing its agility.
Exterior Design
From a design perspective, the Touareg appears to be at the forefront of Volkswagen’s new design language. It is sleeker than the previous model and presents a refined look that appeals to its middle-to-upper-class target audience, albeit with less ruggedness.
Interior Features
Claimed to be the most technologically advanced Volkswagen of its era, the 2019 Touareg offers a plush cabin featuring leather and wood trims. The 15-inch Innovision Cockpit touchscreen takes center stage along the dashboard, providing a premium feel.
Despite its driver-oriented design and ample space for controls, the infotainment screen can be tricky to navigate due to numerous options hidden in menus. Fortunately, the essential physical knob for volume control remains intact.

Equipped with Volkswagen’s signature 4Motion all-wheel-drive system as standard, the Touareg also features all-wheel steering and active roll compensation, enhancing its handling capabilities. This system allows the rear wheels to turn slightly in the opposite direction of the front wheels at low speeds, creating the impression of a shorter wheelbase.
Pricing and Variants
The all-new Volkswagen Touareg is available in four variants, with prices ranging from AED 192,450 for the 2.0-liter variant to AED 239,300 for the fully-loaded 3.0-liter Highline.
