XPENG’s range-extended electric vehicle technology was the focus of a media workshop we attended at the brand’s Dubai showroom on September 30, 2026. With the GX physically on display, the event brought together a closer look at the vehicle and a technical programme built around the company’s REEV powertrain architecture, battery management, efficiency, and refinement.
The workshop took place at the XPENG showroom operated by Gulf Star Motors–Ali & Sons. Presentation materials highlighted the Kunpeng Range Extender under the tagline “EV Experience without Mileage Anxiety,” placing extended driving range at the centre of XPENG’s message.
A technical focus in Dubai
Rather than a conventional vehicle unveiling, the event was organised as a technical workshop. Its scheduled programme covered the range extender, battery, and power-control strategy, alongside noise, vibration, and harshness optimisation and analysis of real-world driving scenarios. A live technical demonstration and an open Q&A were also included in the agenda.
The GX stood beside the presentation area, giving the workshop a direct vehicle connection. Its showroom information board advertised REEV technology and more than 1,200 km of WLTP range, alongside several convenience and entertainment features. These were manufacturer claims displayed at the venue, rather than figures measured during our visit.

Inside the GX powertrain
XPENG’s official Chinese-market configuration table provides a more detailed picture of the GX’s range-extended system. The REEV versions combine a 1.5-litre turbocharged range extender with a 63.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and dual-motor all-wheel drive. XPENG also lists a 60-litre fuel tank and an 800-volt high-voltage platform.
The front and rear electric motors are rated at 160 kW and 210 kW respectively, delivering a listed system output of 370 kW and 695 Nm of torque. For these Chinese-market variants, XPENG quotes acceleration from 0–100 km/h in 4.98 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h.
Specification | XPENG’s Chinese-market GX REEV figures |
|---|---|
Range extender | 1.5-litre turbocharged unit |
Battery | 63.3 kWh LFP |
Drive system | Dual-motor all-wheel drive |
System output | 370 kW |
System torque | 695 Nm |
0–100 km/h | 4.98 seconds |
Fuel tank | 60 litres |
Electrical platform | 800 volts |
Figures apply to the REEV variants listed on XPENG’s Chinese website; the specification of the vehicle displayed in Dubai has not been independently confirmed.
Understanding the range figures
For the Chinese-market GX REEV, XPENG lists an electric-only range of 430 km and a combined range of 1,585 km under the CLTC test cycle. These should be kept separate from the “over 1,200 km WLTP” claim shown on the Dubai vehicle’s display board: the figures use different test-cycle labels and should not be treated as interchangeable.

XPENG states that its CLTC range figures were obtained in laboratory testing with 21-inch wheels. The manufacturer also notes that temperature, road conditions, wheel size, tyre condition, and driving habits can affect the range achieved in actual use.
Charging is another element of the official specification. XPENG lists 5C fast-charging capability and a laboratory-tested 10–80% DC charging time starting from 11.7 minutes. That result was obtained using an XPENG S5 charger, with the company noting that actual charging time depends on factors including temperature, vehicle condition, and charger performance.
The GX on display
Beyond its powertrain, the displayed GX highlighted XPENG’s approach to flagship equipment. The information board listed four intelligent electric doors, four electric side steps, 22-inch wheels, 33 Hi-Fi speakers, and three exterior speakers.

XPENG’s Chinese specification table describes the GX as a six-seat SUV measuring 5,265 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,800 mm high, with a 3,115 mm wheelbase. Equipment varies by version and options, making it important to distinguish the broader model specification from the features advertised on the Dubai display vehicle.
The Dubai workshop placed the GX alongside a technical discussion of XPENG’s range-extender strategy. For our coverage, that connection is the central story: a vehicle on display, supported by a programme examining the architecture, energy management, and refinement behind the company’s REEV technology.
