YallaMotor and Generation.e Launch Second Electric Vehicle Buyers Survey
Introduction
YallaMotor, in partnership with Generation.e, has announced the launch of the second Electric Vehicle Buyers Survey in anticipation of the highly anticipated Smarter Mobility World event in March. This survey follows last year’s successful initiative, which gathered insights from over 3,800 participants in the GCC, marking it as the largest study conducted in the region aimed at understanding the demand for electric vehicles in the Middle East.
Key Announcements
The announcement was made during the flagship DXB Green Leadership Series, hosted by the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE) at Dubai Science Park on Tuesday, January 21st. Ben Pullen, Co-Founder & CEO at Generation.e, delivered a keynote speech discussing the increasing interest in electric vehicle adoption.
Survey Insights
Last year’s survey, conducted by YallaMotor in collaboration with Generation.e, highlighted significant challenges faced by potential electric vehicle buyers. Key findings include:
- Only 8% of respondents had driven a pure electric vehicle.
- 51% recognized improved fuel economy as a key advantage.
- 49% identified reduced carbon emissions as a benefit.

Despite the enthusiasm surrounding electric vehicles, concerns remain regarding:
- Long charging times (45%).
- High initial purchase costs (37%).
- Inconvenient charging options (34%).
Nevertheless, the 2019 survey indicated that 44% of respondents in the GCC are likely or very likely to purchase an electric vehicle within the next two years, with 61% expressing a preference for it to be their primary vehicle.
Industry Perspectives
Jorge Bialade, General Manager at YallaMotor, stated: “As the largest automotive platform in the region, we have the responsibility to share this information with all stakeholders to facilitate discussions that will accelerate electric vehicle adoption. This is essential for overcoming challenges and building a sustainable future with more electric vehicles on the roads of the GCC. We look forward to the results of the next survey as we assess the appetite for electric vehicle adoption in the region.”
Looking Ahead
The current year's survey aims to gauge shifts in perceptions due to global and regional efforts to enhance electric and smarter mobility. The results will be unveiled at Smarter Mobility World, a pioneering event featuring leaders from business and government, scheduled for March 24-25, 2020, at The Sustainable City.
