Overview of MG 6
The MG 6 is a Chinese car with a British history, priced at 73,000 Dirhams. In this review, we will explore whether this model stands out against popular competitors like the Honda Civic, Kia Cerato, and Toyota Corolla.
Exterior Design
The MG 6 draws inspiration from various vehicles. The front design, particularly around the headlights and grille, resembles that of a Mazda, while the rear end, including the taillights, has similarities to Mercedes-Benz models. The overall aesthetic of the MG 6 is appealing, featuring a fastback design that distinguishes it within its segment. The large 18-inch alloy wheels and the vibrant Racing Red color enhance its visual appeal, setting it apart from its more conventional Japanese and Korean rivals.
Interior Comfort
The interior of the MG 6 matches its exterior flair, showcasing a sports sedan vibe with red and black leather upholstery, aluminum pedals, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Although the build quality could be improved, especially in lower cabin areas, the design remains impressive.
Rear seat passengers have access to A/C vents and leather on the door panels. While headroom and legroom are adequate, they fall short compared to competitors. The boot space of 424 liters is the smallest in its class, yet it offers easy access.
Features and Technology
The MG 6 comes well-equipped with numerous comfort and safety features, including:
- 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat
- 4-way adjustable passenger seat
- Dual zone climate control
- Cooled central storage box
The MG 6 has a 5-star C-NCAP safety rating, backed by a robust body structure and features such as:
- Tire pressure monitoring system
- ISOFIX points
- Rear camera
- Push button ignition
- Cruise control and speed limiter
On the tech side, the MG 6 includes a digital screen in the instrument cluster and an 8-inch infotainment system paired with a 6-speaker audio setup. Notably, while Apple CarPlay is available, Android Auto is omitted.
Driving Performance
Contrary to what the badge may suggest, the MG 6 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that strikes an excellent balance between power and fuel efficiency. With 167 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, the MG 6 can reach 100 km/h in just over 7 seconds and averages 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers, outperforming many Japanese and Korean competitors in both power and efficiency.
The driving experience is enhanced by good insulation at city speeds, making the MG 6 feel more premium than its price suggests. In Sport mode, the vehicle's responsiveness increases, with the speedometer displaying a dynamic red. However, some quirks arise, such as the turbo's delayed response when releasing the accelerator pedal.
Final Verdict
Chinese automotive brands are on the rise, with improvements in design, technology, and driving engagement. The MG 6 exemplifies these advancements and, at 73,000 Dirhams, offers solid value. However, it faces tough competition from established rivals like the Kia Cerato and Honda Civic, priced at 78,000 Dirhams and 84,000 Dirhams, respectively.
