2017 Audi RS7 Review: Performance and Luxury Redefined
Audi RS7 Overview
Audi is renowned for their all-wheel-drive Quattro systems, celebrated for their impressive rally heritage. From 1981 to 1985, Audi Quattro cars won 23 rallies and secured 6 consecutive World Rally Championships (WRC). The Audi RS7 debuted in 2013, following the success of the A7, which began production in 2010. Competing among the fastest four-door saloons, the RS7 goes head-to-head with the BMW M6, Porsche Panamera Turbo S, and Mercedes CLS63 AMG. With the M6 produced for nearly 30 years and the Mercedes for about 25 years, does the RS7 have what it takes to catch up?

Exterior
The exterior of the Audi RS7 Performance is fairly understated. Aside from the Quattro graphics, its design is subtle yet impressive. The RS7 appeals to those who appreciate insane performance without ostentation. The vehicle features smooth lines flowing from the front to its striking sportback design. Our test car was painted in Misano Red with a pearl effect, which looked spectacular in sunlight. The 21” cast aluminum alloy wheels with a 5 twin-arm design in gloss anthracite black are the perfect complement to this beast.
Interior
Upon entering the all-new RS7 for the first time, the beautiful cabin struck me as understated yet filled with high-quality features. The solid aluminum buttons and Valcona leather upholstery in black with honeycomb stitching add to its luxurious feel. However, I found the steering wheel somewhat disappointing, as it closely resembles the one in the 252 hp A4 we tested, which feels out of place considering the price and performance expectations of the RS7.
Audi owners in the Middle East are accustomed to dealing with scorching hot buttons and knobs. Fortunately, the luxurious cabin allows you to sit comfortably while they cool, thanks to the incredibly comfortable seats. The AC system in the GCC Spec RS7 works exceptionally well, cooling the cabin quickly. A notable improvement over the A4 is the simple gear shifter, which operates smoothly.
The rear seats offer surprising space, dispelling any concerns about passenger room due to the sportback design. The RS7 accommodates four passengers comfortably, with well-thought-out headroom provided by large scoops in the headliner.

Safety & Technology
The 2016 Audi RS7 is equipped with an extensive array of innovative technology and assistance features. The assistance package includes 360-degree cameras, Audi side assist, Audi pre sense rear, cross-traffic assist, exit warning, park assist, and parking aids for both front and rear. While these systems significantly enhance driving comfort, I found the park assist lacking in confidence for regular use, despite its effectiveness.
The new MMI and virtual cockpit are impressive, with the MMI system displayed on an 8.3-inch monitor featuring touch-sensitive capabilities in the scroll wheel for easy navigation. The system allows for customization of nearly every aspect of the car's technology package.
The Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system is an experience in itself, delivering incredible audio quality that envelops you in sound, making you feel like you're at a live concert.
The new Audi smartphone system seamlessly integrates Android and iOS devices into the MMI interface, with a wireless charging feature available by placing your mobile on the center storage compartment.

Driving Experience
For those seeking even more speed than the already exhilarating RS7, Audi has introduced the RS7 Performance. With a power increase of 45 bhp (for a total of 605) and an additional 50 NM of torque, the RS7 Performance sets the benchmark for super saloons. It boasts a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.7 seconds, making it 0.2 seconds faster than the standard RS7, and can reach 200 km/h in 8.2 seconds. If derestricted, it will not stop until it hits 305 km/h.
The driving experience reflects Audi's commitment to excellent handling across their models, ensuring that the RS7 remains firmly planted on the road. The Quattro system provides exceptional grip, while the adaptive RS suspension allows for various ride settings from comfort to sporty stiffness.
One standout feature that I thoroughly enjoyed during the test drive was the RS sports exhaust system. With the active valves open, the RS7 produces an exhilarating sound at full throttle, reminiscent of a low-flying helicopter, with downshifts that create an unforgettable crackle and pop—hallmarks of the RS7.
