In a world dominated by hybrids and digital driving aids, the new Zagato and Capricorn 01 stands out as something refreshingly mechanical. It is a car built around a simple idea: to bring back the connection between driver and machine.

It is about feel, sound, and the old-school satisfaction of changing gears yourself. The car is a collaboration between two worlds: Italian design and German engineering. The result looks mesmerizing.

A Supercharged Heart

At the core of the Capricorn 01 lies a 5.2-litre supercharged V8. It is borrowed from Ford but has been completely rebuilt with Capricorn’s own internals, including new pistons, camshafts, and a custom dry-sump system. The result is a staggering 887 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque.

All of this power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The open-gated design and short, mechanical throw make every gear change an event in itself.

This setup might seem unconventional in a world where most hypercars rely on dual-clutch gearboxes, but that is exactly the point.

Designed for Emotion, Not Algorithms

Zagato’s design for the Capricorn 01 is a study in restraint. It avoids flashy wings and complex active aerodynamics. Instead, it relies on its shape and surfaces to manage airflow. The double-bubble roof remains a signature element, while the long bonnet and tight proportions recall Zagato’s racing heritage.

Every panel is made from carbon fibre, keeping the dry weight below 1,200 kilograms. The chassis itself is also carbon, paired with pushrod suspension and adjustable Bilstein dampers. Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and 21-inch forged wheels keep things under control.

Inside the Machine

The cabin of the Capricorn 01 could not be further from today’s digital dashboards. And, you might've guessed it b now, there is no central touchscreen. Three analog dials dominate the view: a tachometer, oil pressure, and temperature gauges.

The steering wheel is trimmed in rich leather and devoid of buttons. The pedal box and steering column can be adjusted, but the seats themselves are fixed to the chassis for rigidity. Materials are simple and tactile, with leather, aluminium, and exposed carbon fibre used sparingly.

The Experience It Promises

Capricorn claims the 01 can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in under three seconds and reach a top speed of around 223 mph. Those numbers are impressive, but the appeal lies in how it delivers them.

Without electronic assists or hybrid boosts, the 01 invites the driver to become part of the process, to balance throttle and clutch, to work the gearbox and feel the chassis through the seat. In a market obsessed with lap times and technology, the Capricorn 01 is a reminder that driving can still be an art form.
