2015 BMW X6: A Sporty Luxury SUV Review
BMW introduced a brand new segment in 2008 called ‘Sport Activity Vehicle’ with the X6. To everyone’s surprise, the model sold very well and carved a niche for itself among its peers. Now, 8 years later, the X6 has been refreshed and improved in almost every aspect. We got our hands on the X6 xDrive50i courtesy of AGMC. Check out the prices and specs over here.
Design
The BMW X6 retains the highly controversial styling of its predecessor but has seen significant design improvements. It now fits perfectly among its siblings, the X4 and the X5. The X6 is wider and flatter from the front than before, enhancing its aerodynamic profile. The front kidney grille appears more aggressive compared to the older X6 models.
Key design features include:
- Wider and flatter front for improved aerodynamics
- Aggressive front kidney grille
- Side vents behind the front wheel arches to reduce drag
- Refined rear styling, moving away from the previous model's 'ogre' look
Interior
The interior of the 2015 BMW X6 is synonymous with high-end BMW models. Soft touch leather surrounds you, and the seating position is elevated, providing excellent visibility. The car is equipped with multiple cameras for assistance in tight spots.
Notable interior features include:
- Intuitive 'iDrive' infotainment system
- Beautiful wide screen with crisp visuals
- Special SOS feature exclusive to AGMC for assistance
- Built-in 3G internet connection for seamless browsing
Driving Experience
Driving the BMW X6 is where my opinion shifted; it drives like a sports coupe with an elevated seating position. The handling is exceptional with minimal body roll at high speeds, making it easy to navigate through traffic.
Key driving features include:
- 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 444 BHP and 650 Nm of torque
- Acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds with launch control
- Best-in-class 8-speed automatic transmission
- Multiple driving modes that adjust the car's character
While the braking performance could improve, the overall driving experience of the new X6 is a pleasure.
Verdict
The BMW X6 is ideal for those who wish to stand out in a crowd. Although the market is filled with competitors like the Range Rover Sport, which offers better performance, space, and fuel economy, the X6 provides a unique driving experience akin to a sports car. However, potential buyers should consider the limited boot space.
In summary, if you are looking for a luxurious vehicle that combines sporty fun with some off-roading capability, the BMW X6 is the way to go.
