2013 Toyota Avalon Launch Event in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Abu Dhabi, UAE - The 2013 Toyota Avalon was officially launched in the UAE on Wednesday, 20th February at the luxurious Etihad Towers.
The styling of the 2013 Toyota Avalon is aggressive, especially the frontal design, showcasing bold lines on the side and rear. The aim is to appeal not just to the "dads" but also to the younger generation.
The launch event, titled "Luxury Reimagined", featured a luxurious build-up to the unveiling of the Avalon.
Day 1: Park Hyatt, Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club

The event began at Park Hyatt Hotel at Dubai Creek around 2 PM, where a ten-passenger seaplane awaited us for a 30-minute ride to Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi. The seaplane flies at approximately 50,000 ft, providing stunning views of major landmarks and developments in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The flight was organized by Seawings, which we highly recommend for a unique travel experience.

Upon landing, we were driven to the luxurious Etihad Towers, where we checked in and relaxed. Complimentary spa treatments were also available, with some journalists appearing more interested in the spa than the launch itself!
However, we focused on inquiring about the new Avalon right away.
Key Questions About the 2013 Toyota Avalon
- How different is the Avalon from the Aurion?
- How does the new Avalon perform compared to its previous generation model?
- What new interior updates can we expect in this new offering?
- What are the trim levels and prices of the new Avalon?
- How has the styling changed compared to last year?
Before we received answers, we attended the official unveiling, part of which we captured on video:
After the unveiling, we enjoyed a delightful three-course dinner accompanied by excellent live music from an all-violin band. While everyone else dispersed, we took the opportunity to chat with product officials from Al Futtaim Motors.
Insights from Al Futtaim Motors
- The 2013 Toyota Avalon is positioned as a competitor against the Nissan Maxima and Ford Taurus, emphasizing drive performance and interior benchmarking.
- The previous generation had a single mode transmission; this new model features three drive modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport across all trims.
- There are four trims available, and all include leather seats, even the base model.
- All trims, including the base model, come equipped with ten airbags, which is commendable.
- The horsepower has increased to 273 HP from 268 HP in the previous generation.
- The base model offers eight speakers, while the higher trims feature eleven speakers—two more than the previous Avalon.
