2015 BMW X6 Review: Luxury Meets Performance

2015 BMW X6 Report

In 2008, BMW introduced a new category known as the Sport Activity Vehicle with the launch of the X6. It surprised everyone with its success and distinctiveness. Now, after eight years, it has been updated and enhanced in nearly every aspect. We had the opportunity to test the X6 xDrive50i provided by AGMC. Take a look at the prices and specifications here.

Design

The X6 retains the design of its original model, but BMW has significantly improved its aesthetics. It now aligns better with its family members, the X4 and X5. From the front, it can be difficult to distinguish between the X5 and X6. The X6 has become wider and flatter, enhancing its aerodynamics. The front grille now features a more aggressive look compared to the previous model.

• The side design still gives you the impression of saying "look at me."
• The air vents behind the rear wheel arches help improve wheel circulation.
• From the rear, it resembles the previous model but with a more attractive design.

Interior

The interior of the X6 matches the luxury found in other BMW vehicles. You will find premium leather throughout. The seats are designed to provide excellent visibility from all angles. If you’re concerned about driving in tight spaces, there’s no need to worry, as it is equipped with cameras all around.

• The iDrive entertainment system is the best I have experienced.
• A large, clear screen offers an outstanding experience.
• The navigation system is exceptional.
• The SOS system from AGMC is there to assist you.

However, what impressed me most was the internet browsing capability via the built-in 3G system. You don’t need to connect your phone to access the internet. The system is fast and integrated with the car, ensuring safety and security.

Driving Experience

After some critiques on the exterior design, I sat in the car to experience the drive, and that’s when I understood the reason behind this vehicle's success. It feels like you are driving a sporty coupe, yet you are seated high up. I have never driven an SUV that is as smooth as this. The handling and stability are excellent, making driving enjoyable even in congested streets.

• The engine is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 444 horsepower.
• Acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
• 8-speed transmission system.

The driving experience is very enjoyable, but the braking could use some improvement, which I did not expect. Nevertheless, there are several driving modes, and you can feel the difference between them.

Summary

The X6 is for those who want to stand out. Currently, the market is filled with the Range Rover Sport, which is a great option. It offers better performance, more space, and improved fuel consumption, but at a slightly higher price. With the X6, you will feel like you are driving a sports car. If you enjoy driving a luxurious and sporty vehicle with off-road capabilities, then take a look at the X6.
