Introduction
During our trip in Fujairah, we were fortunate to be among the first to experience the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt in the Middle East. Although there were no available copies for media testing, our journey began with this vehicle during our participation in the second edition of the Global Electric Vehicle Road Trip (EVRT).
Driving Experience
Two days ago, we joined the EVRT organization for a driving event in Fujairah aimed at promoting the adoption of electric vehicles in the region. To be candid, we only had a brief half-hour with the Chevrolet Bolt, but our recent focus on numerous electric vehicles allowed us to glean valuable insights during this short drive.
Chevrolet Bolt Design
Exterior Design
The Chevrolet Bolt features a design reminiscent of crossover vehicles, with a distinct touch that identifies it as an electric car. It lacks a traditional front grille, typical of electric vehicles, yet it boasts a striking presence on the road. Our journey began with the Renault Zoe, followed by the Nissan Leaf. I can confidently say that the Chevrolet Bolt's height sets it apart from its competitors.
Interior Design
Upon entering the cabin, I was immediately impressed by the quality of materials used throughout the vehicle, along with the thoughtful layout of its interior components. The multifunctional center display is packed with features, enhancing the overall experience.
Driving Performance
Now comes the moment we had been waiting for. Despite my limited half-hour drive, I truly enjoyed this short stint. The moment you press the accelerator, you can feel its robust torque, and the quietness is remarkably high, as expected from an electric vehicle.
Interestingly, the Chevrolet Bolt utilizes a one-pedal driving system, similar to the one found in the 2018 Nissan Leaf, known as the electronic pedal. This system allows for acceleration and deceleration using a single pedal, which I found thrilling and easy to adapt to. Chevrolet claims that this method enhances the range per charge by employing regenerative braking instead of traditional braking, enabling it to cover up to 520 km on a single charge, as per their specifications.
Pricing and Availability
It's still uncertain whether the Chevrolet Bolt will be available in Middle Eastern markets anytime soon. However, the anticipation it has generated is palpable! For reference, the vehicle is priced at $30,000 in the United States.
