Introduction

The Toyota Camry was first introduced in 1982 and has gained significant popularity worldwide due to its impressive specifications and high reliability, making it an ideal family sedan. The Camry made its debut on the streets of the UAE in 1992 and has since become a favorite among residents, visitors, and locals alike. After 36 years since its launch, the Camry continues to compete vigorously for its market position and sales, facing strong competitors such as Mazda 6 and Nissan Altima, thanks to its high reliability and competitive resale value.

Updates for 2018

Following the unveiling of the hybrid version at the Dubai International Motor Show last year, the 2018 Camry did not receive the anticipated attention, especially with the official launch of the Toyota Hilux TRD and Toyota Mirai at the same event. To regain the spotlight, Toyota revealed its V6 version at a special launch event at the St. Regis Dubai, attracting numerous car enthusiasts to this new model.

General Manager's Insights

Saud Abbasi, the General Manager of Al-Futtaim Toyota, stated: "The Camry is a core model in the Toyota family, demonstrating proven success over the years with over 9 million units sold in 2017. Since its introduction to the UAE three decades ago, the Camry has become a well-known vehicle and an integral part of daily commuting. Its widespread popularity in the UAE can be attributed to its excellent fuel efficiency, competitive resale value, and relatively low purchase price."

Design and Specifications

The 2018 Camry V6 Sport is built on Toyota's new design language (TNGA), featuring a distinctive exterior with a dual front grille and eye-catching 18-inch alloy wheels, along with a prominent rear trunk spoiler and shaded taillights. The Camry V6 is available in three different trims:

  • SE+: 114,000 AED
  • Sport: 122,500 AED
  • Limited: 124,500 AED

Engine Performance

The 2018 Camry offers two engine options:

  1. A 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 298 horsepower with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
  2. A 2.5-liter engine with 178 horsepower paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Despite the power difference between the two engines, fuel consumption does not vary significantly between the smaller engine and the V6, thanks to Toyota's D-4S fuel injection system. By choosing the Sport version, drivers will enjoy a stiffer sport-tuned suspension that enhances road connectivity during driving.

Conclusion

Undoubtedly, the Toyota Camry is a legendary vehicle in every sense of the word, capable of serving individuals wonderfully for decades. When discussing the 2018 model, it truly embodies what a Camry should be, offering improved performance, speed, and a distinctive appearance. One thing is for certain: its competitors must act quickly to keep pace with the new Camry.
