Lexus's Art Is Motion: Transforming Driving Styles into Unique Portraits

Introduction

No, this is not a dream. These days, hybrid vehicles display different types of data to inform the driver about his/her driving efficiency. Some go to the extent of showing cool graphics like trees falling to make the driver aware. Lexus has gone a step further by collaborating with artist Sergio Albiac to introduce its new project, Art Is Motion, which lets the car draw the portrait of the driver based on his/her driving style. The campaign car for this innovative project is the Lexus IS300h.

How the System Works

This is how the system operates:

1. A photograph of the driver is uploaded into the system.
2. Using the physics of the car, such as engine speed and how often the hybrid system is operational, the portrait is drawn.
3. If the car is driven slowly and steadily, the portrait will be realistic and clear.
4. Conversely, if the car is driven at high speed, the brush strokes will become more violent, resulting in a more abstract portrait.

Color Representation

The portrait is drawn on the center display as the car is driven. Additionally:

• Slow speeds will show colder colors.
• High speeds will display virulent colors.
