2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Review: Luxury Redefined
Unbeknownst to many at the time, the Mercedes-Benz 190 series was the precursor to the up-and-coming C-Class sedan. Its production run lasted from 1982 to early 1993. Later on in the same year, the Stuttgart-based carmaker unveiled the 190’s successor, officially called the C-Class.
Over 25 years after its first release, the new fourth generation C-Class is one of the most popular models from the stables of Mercedes-Benz. Well admired as it may be, this champion of a D-segment luxury sedan is not without rivals, including:
Exterior
The exterior of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class oozes style and sophistication. Key features include:
- Striking headlights with a projector setup and suave LED DRLs
- Protruding front grille with dual slats and a prominent three-pointed star logo
- Bumper housing dual air inlets and a gaping air dam
The flared fenders and distinct character lines give the C-Class an imposing yet elegant stance. The taut rear features classy LED taillights, a short yet stylish boot, and a meaty bumper with an integrated diffuser and twin exhaust pipes.
Thanks to extensive use of lightweight aluminum and high-strength steel in its new platform, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class now weighs up to 90 kg less than before. The new model measures:
- Length: 4.686 meters
- Width: 1.810 meters
- Height: 1.442 meters
- Wheelbase: 2.840 meters
- Total cargo volume: 481 liters
Interior
The sophistication and elegance of the exterior carry on to the interior of the new 2019 C-Class. The cabin features:
- High-quality materials such as leather, soft-touch plastics, and metal/wood accents
- Well-designed buttons and key touchpoints
- Spot-on cabin ergonomics with great build quality
The leather seats provide excellent support and adjustments, with ample space in the front. However, rear seat space is limited for taller passengers due to the sloping roof and large transmission tunnel. Fortunately, the seats are comfortable and include rear air-con vents for improved ventilation.
The 2019 Mercedes C-Class offers a laundry list of features, including:
- Adaptive cruise control
- Multi-zone automatic climate control
- Power-operated front seats with memory function
- Heated and ventilated seats

- Potent 4.0-liter BiTurbo V8 in the C63S AMG
The C43 AMG features all-wheel drive (AWD), while the regular sedans and the C63S come with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) layout. All C-Class sedan models are equipped with a 7-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
The top speed for the C63S AMG is limited to 250 km/h, with a 0-100 km/h time of just 4.0 seconds. Fuel economy figures range between 5.8-8.4L/100 kilometers.
