The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is the Middle East’s most established desert rally and for the first time and now it is all set for the second round of the new World Rally-Raid World Championship from 5-10 March. With FIA and FIM announcing to work in unison for future world motorsport events, it looks like the event will be making a bumper international entry.
The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge will be entering a new era after getting the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region.
“This would not have been possible without the enormous support we have received from the UAE authorities, and we would like to thank HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his consistent backing and encouragement,” said Khalid Bin Sulayem, the EMSO’s newly-elected President.
“We have thirty years of history and achievements to look back on, but our priority is to help give cross country rallying a bright, long-term future.”
All this suggests that cross-country events in UAE as a whole have a great future and will soon be attracting drivers and teams from all over the globe.
As for the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the event will be based on the Yas Marina circuit and the opening ceremony will happen on March 4th. After that, the event will be heading to five gruelling stages of 264km, 318km, 270km, 257km and 217km added to road sections of 519km for an overall length of 1,917km all across the Al Dhafra region’s mesmerising desert landscape.
