Lamborghini Centenario launched at Geneva Motor Show

2016 is an important year for Automobili Lamborghini. It is because this year is the 100th birth anniversary of the Lamborghini founder Ferrucio Lamborghini. And, to commemorate this auspicious occasion, the maker has launched a special edition car called the Lamborghini Centenario.

This special car is based on the Aventador platform but looks completely new and radical. Most probably, with this car, Lamborghini has introduced the new design language for the future models – like they did with the Reventon. However, one can’t be sure as there were other limited editions in the past as well like the Veneno and the Siesto Elemento. And, like the previous special editions, the Centario too will be limited in numbers – 40 units to be precise; out of which 20 will be coupes and 20 will be roadsters. Each unit will cost a whopping 1.75 million euros. And, guess what? They are already sold out. Surely, we will get to see a few examples in the GCC as well.

So what is the Centenario all about? Well, as per Lamborghini, it is a mix of the past and future of Lamborghini. The ‘past’ here is the engine – the same V12 engine used in the Aventador but this time it is producing 760 BHP. The V12 is mated to the all-wheel-drive system like the Aventador. On the other hand, the ‘future’ here is about the carbon fibre construction. The entire car is made out of carbon fibre. This special construction results in a total curb weight of 1.51 tons. Moreover, this is the first Lamborghini with rear-wheel-steering and a touch-based infotainment system that is compatible with Apple Carplay and has internet connectivity for the modern users.

Coming to the meat, what are the performance figures? Well, the Centenario with its updated engine takes 2.8 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 km/h and the top speed is around 350 km/h like the Aventador. So, all in all, the Lamborghini Centenario is the maker’s way of celebrating the brand and its founder for his efforts.
